An 18-year-old man, who allegedly tried to rob a restaurant at gunpoint on Wednesday, fled the scene after a restaurant employee told him to “go home,” according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

Novian Gabrille Taylor, of Aiken, was charged with attempted armed robbery and trespassing in an enclosed space. He was placed in the Aiken County detention center, where he remained on Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened about 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Burger King on York Street, according to a report.

A man entered the restaurant near the playground wearing a black face covering, a black hoodie and khaki pants. He also had a black handgun.

The suspect approached the front counter and demanded all of the money, according to the report. An employee told police “she did not believe the handgun was real, so she told the suspect to go home,” according to the report.

The suspect then “became aggravated because his request was not taken seriously and began pointing the handgun at several other employees and several other people seated in the dining area.”

The suspect then left through the same door he entered, without any money, according to the report. The Aiken County bloodhound tracking team was called in to search for the suspect.

Officers later received a call that Taylor was hiding in the backyard of a George Street home, according to a report. They arrived and found Taylor sitting in a chair next to a shed. He was wearing a black T-shirt and pajama pants and was bleeding from the mouth.

The homeowner said Taylor had been in her home earlier and left his pants there after he was told to leave, according to the report. She said she didn’t see him enter the home but that he had taken off his pants.

The woman asked for a pair of gloves before reaching into a closet and pulling out a pair of khaki colored pants, according to the report.
