ST. GEORGE (AP) — The police chief in St. George has resigned amid a State Law Enforcement Division inquiry into spending.
Town officials said Anthony Britt resigned on Thursday. He had been police chief since 2009.
Mayor Anne Johnston contacted SLED about possible spending of money that was not deposited in the bank account. SLED spokesman Thom Berry said there are no new developments in the case.
It’s the second time Britt has resigned from the department.
Town clerk and treasurer Annette Moore says that as a sergeant in 1999, Britt was suspended and was not reinstated pending the outcome of another investigation. She said she could not discuss that situation.
Britt returned to the department in 2008.
