An Aiken woman reported on Tuesday that someone stole her purse from under a pew while she went to take communion during Mass, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety. The incident happened about 6 p.m. at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, according to the report.
The 63-year-old woman told officers she was inside the church attending Mass and placed her purse under the pew.
The victim said she went up to the front of the church for communion, and after returning found her purse was no longer where she left it, according to the report.
A witness stated that, during Mass, she saw a man standing at the back of the church, according to the report. The man is described as a white male in his 30s, about 6 feet tall, average build and “clean cut” with dark hair.
He was wearing a green T-shirt with a large graphic design on the back and blue jeans.
Purse reported missing during church service
