COLUMBIA (AP) — A Richland County man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for shooting at highway troopers last year in downtown Columbia after a high-speed chase.
The office of Solicitor Dan Johnson reports that 42-year-old Scott Hanson of Elgin pleaded guilty on Thursday to two counts of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and failure to stop for a blue light.
Prosecutors say Hanson led troopers on a high-speed chase from Interstate 277 to a bank parking lot in Columbia’s Five Points business district. After Hanson got out of his vehicle and started shooting at troopers, they shot him. He recovered from his injuries. No officer was injured.
