The South Carolina Policy Council president will speak at the next Aiken Republican Club luncheon.
The Council's president, Ashley Landess, will discuss the recent legislative session, address disclosure and talk about the impact of President Barack Obama's health care reform, as well as touch on other key issues, according to a press release. A question-and-answer session is also planned after Landess speaks.
“I always look forward to Ashley speaking,” said Club President Ken Gordon. “Her fervor and passion for her beliefs never fail to come through to her audience. She keeps her listeners engaged and informed.”
The S.C. Policy Council was established in 1986 by the late Thomas A. Roe of Greenville. The Council's mission is to promote and protect freedom, “and to prove that freedom works,” according to its website. The Council is not a state government entity but rather a nonprofit, nonpartisan, tax-exempt organization, the website reads.
Landess, originally from Spartanburg, has been the president of the Council since January 2008. She served as the Council's vice president of affairs from 1998 to 2008.
Landess earned a journalism degree from the University of North Texas and has pursued a 20-year career in communications in which she works with public policy, as well as consults for private businesses and nonprofit organizations.
The luncheon will take place Aug. 14 at Newberry Hall located at 117 Newberry St.
Registration and social hour begins at 11 a.m., and lunch will be served at noon. The cost of the luncheon for members is $15 and $20 for non-members. The fee includes lunch.
To RSVP, email email@example.com or call 803-648-9542. Attendees have until 4 p.m. on Aug. 13 to make a reservation, and cancellations must be received no later than Aug. 12.
