Shoppers will be able to purchase their Halloween costumes and their gourmet cheese in one outing in the near future due to a new business' location.

Party City, the leader in the party goods industry and specialty party goods will be located to the left of the Fresh Market on Whiskey Road, in the South Park Center. Party City owns more than 600 franchised stores throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.

The closest Party City to Aiken is located in Augusta. The corporation, owned by Party City Holdings Inc. is headquartered in New Jersey and is known by consumers for its premiere Halloween costume variety. The store also features supplies for birthday parties, special occasions, entertaining, balloons, weddings and any themed party.

Regarding Party City's opening, a public hearing will be held to discuss whether Party City may use its slogan, “Discount Party Store,” on the shopping center's entrance sign.

A date for when the store will open has not been confirmed.

A public hearing through the planning commission will be held Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 6 p.m. at the City Council Chambers at 214 Park Ave. S.W.

“The main question was whether that tag line is something allowed, and I thought the City Council should decide if that's what they want,” said Ed Evans, City of Aiken planning director. “This would set a precedent for the rest of businesses in Aiken.”

Party City's corporate could not be reached for comment by press time.

For more information, call the planning department at 803-642-7608.

(Editor's note: This story has been edited to correct Party City's slogan.)
