Jacki Barnwell, the Schofield Middle School principal, resigned Monday afternoon, two days before the Aiken Standard reported the School District's statement that Barnwell would be reassigned to another school.

Barnwell said she submitted a letter of resignation to a district administrator on Monday. Superintendent Dr. Beth Everitt had told a reporter earlier that day the district had yet to determine a new position for Barnwell.

The district did not notify the Aiken Standard about Barnwell's letter until Wednesday.

Barnwell furnished to the Aiken Standard the letter she sent to Everitt and Aiken County School Board members.

Her seven years with the School District, she wrote, “have provided me with a fulfilling wealth of experience that I will continue to reflect upon throughout my professional career. I have invested my heart and soul into the students I have been privileged to serve during my tenure as an administrator in Aiken County Public Schools.”

In the letter Barnwell wrote she needed to seek new challenges related to her background in education and business and, with her husband, would support her children as they start and complete thier college education.

“Opportunities that are available will allow me to expand my professional vision and beliefs to benefit larger communities,” she said. Barnwell expressed her appreciation to the School District for the chance to impact students, parents and teachers.
