Ten people will stand off to conquer as many of breakfast’s softest treats in only 10 minutes on Saturday at Auten’s Family Restaurant’s fourth annual pancake challenge.
The showdown will start at 10 a.m.
Four pancakes will be given to each competitor, owner Sharon Auten said. Then, the person’s stomach will determine how many more get dished out.
The winner will receive a trophy and a gift bag with an Auten’s gift certificate, candy, Rolaids and Pepto Bismol.
The main contest will be for ages 18 and older. A separate contest will run for children ages 4 to 10; it is open to as many contestants that would like to participate, Auten said.
The winner of the second contest will also receive a gift bag and trophy, too.
Both winners will have their pictures hung in the restaurant.
“We want everyone to come and cheer them on,” Auten said.
Her husband, Frankie, will be the judge.
The pancake challenge will be held on the restaurant’s fourth anniversary, a tradition the Autens try to keep.
Signups will be taken until spots are filled for the adult round and until the day of the event for the kids’ round.
The restaurant is located at 969 Pine Log Road in the Staples shopping area.
