Man gets 15 years for sex assualt

An Aiken County man pleaded guilty in Saluda County court to sexually assaulting a girl for more than 10 years, according to 11th Judicial Circuit Solicitor's Office.

Kendal Carol Sudduth, 36, of North Augusta, was sentenced to 15 years in prison after he plead guilty to second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to Assistant Solicitor Suzanne Mays.

Circuit Judge Michael Baxley sentenced Sudduth to 10 years and five years, respectively, for the exploitation charges, which will be served consecutively and to three years for the delinquency of a minor charge.

Sudduth originally faced those charges, as well as criminal sexual conduct with a minor; however, the criminal sexual conduct charge was dropped in exchange for the plea, according to Mays.

Sudduth's plea came on the third day of his jury trial. Mays said the female victim, who was 7 years old when the abuse began, was a family member of Sudduth's.

She added that the abuse included showing the victim child pornography. Additionally, Sudduth was possessing and receiving child pornography from December 2006 through February 2007.

The child porn allegations were “encompassed” in the exploitation charges, Mays said.

Sudduth was living in Saluda at the time of the offenses and when he was arrested; however, after he was released on bond, he moved to North Augusta, Mays said.
