Palace Malice preps for Jim Dandy, Socialbug and Sandsarita win

Dogwood Stable’s Palace Malice was on Sunday morning’s work tab at Saratoga, breezing a half-mile in 49.77 in preparation for Saturday’s Jim Dandy Stakes.

Manchester Farm’s Sandsarita broke her maiden in her sophomore campaign debut, commandeering the lead in the stretch, and drawing off to win a 1-mile race on the turf by 4-lengths Saturday at Ellis Park. The 3-year-old chestnut filly by Street Boss is conditioned by Hall of Fame Trainer Bill Mott, and was broken and trained in Aiken by Legacy Stable’s Brad Stauffer at the Aiken Training Track.

Mike Rutherford’s Socialbug was a winner at first asking. The 3-year-old daughter of two-time Horse of the Year Curlin cruised to a 2 3/4-length win in a 6-furlong maiden special weight race Sunday at Del Mar. The dark bay filly is conditioned by Bob Baffert, and

was broken and trained in Aiken by Legacy Stable’s Brad Stauffer.

Stakes winner Gabriel Charles placed second in the second division of the Oceanside Stakes opening day at Del Mar, returning from a layoff that was the result of a fractured pelvis. The Jeff Mullins charge was bred by Dr. Doris Tummillo. The son of Street Hero was broken and trained at the Palmetto Thoroughbred Training Center, and increased his lifetime bankroll to $139,800.
