A 27-year-old Aiken man is in custody at the Aiken County Detention Center, following a shooting incident late on Saturday night, according to the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.

Capt. Eric Abdullah reported in a press release on Sunday that Demetris Williams of Eutaw Street was expected to be charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

The Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at approximately 11:34 p.m. on Saturday from a witness who said someone had been shot and was lying in the street near 3001 Vaucluse Road in Aiken. The responding deputies found the victim who “appeared to have been injured from multiple gunshot wounds,” Abdullah reported.

With the assistance of witnesses, Abdullah said, Sheriff's Office investigators were able to identify Williams, locate him at his Eutaw Street home and arrest him.

Aiken County EMS took the victim to a hospital for treatment. The victim's condition wasn't known, according to the press release.
