City crews will be working over the next couple of days to clear several trees that were brought down by Wednesday afternoon’s storms, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
Capt. David Turno said nearly a dozen trees came down near Marion Street, Barnwell Avenue and Horry Street, and described them as “giant” oak trees.
One tree fell over on a home on Palm Drive, and another damaged some power lines, Turno said.
Magnolia Street, Mead Avenue, Horry Street, Barnwell Avenue and Richland Avenue were partially blocked on Wednesday evening. Turno said crews were working to get the trees cleared from the roadway; however, it could be a couple of days before the trees are cut up and removed completely.
“It’ll be days of removing the debris,” he said. “They’ll still be out for a number of hours clearing trees.”
The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office reported no damage on Wednesday afternoon.
