The Richmond County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help in identifying two men who allegedly "deceived" a woman with a money scam.
The Sheriff's Office reports the suspects approached the victim, Roberta Hall, on May 20 in the Walmart in North Augusta and convinced her she was going to receive a large sum of money if she contributed some of her own money to theirs and then prayed over it.
She willingly drove both suspects to Augusta, withdrew money from two banks and went to her house for another $500. She gave the suspects the money and drove them back to North Augusta, according to Sgt. Michael Shane McDaniel.
The suspects advised her that the large amount of money would be placed in the trunk of her vehicle, and she could retrieve it when she returned home. She departed Walmart, went back to Augusta and discovered that she had been deceived.
The Sheriff's Office obtained video surveillance footage of the two suspects. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Richmond County Sheriff's Office at 706-821-1000.
