Larry Williams
LANGLEY, SC – Mr. Larry Williams, 68, beloved husband of thirty-two years to Mrs. Dorothy Williams, entered into rest on Wednesday, July 10th, 2013.
Born in Covington, GA and a resident of Aiken County, SC, most of his life, he was a son of the late Herbert (Skinny) and Maggie Maffett Williams. At the age of nine, his mother was tragically killed and Larry went to live with his sister, Mozell Fuller in Tampa, FL. He returned to the valley at the age of sixteen. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. For twelve years he worked with Owens-Corning Fiberglass and retired from the Aiken County School District where he was in Maintenance for ten years. He was a member of Burnettown First Baptist Church. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing.
In addition to his wife, parents and sister, family members include his children, Denise (Al) Pyatt, Jackson, SC, Jamie (James) Williams, Warrenville, SC, Tonya (The late Mike Turner) Langley, SC, Randy (Pam) Broome, Warrenville, SC, Andy (Alicia) Broome, Bath, SC and Robert Broome, Manassas, VA; additional siblings, C.H. Williams, Burnettown, SC and the late Martha (Petey) Hawkins; a special foster daughter, Hope Spires; grandchildren, Wayne Brown, Taylor Pyatt, Bobbi Broome, Sharon Usry, Brad Broome,. Clint Broome, Amy Broome, Amanda Broome, Len Broome, Mark Broome, Lucas Broome, Thomas Broome, Denise Brooks, Derek Easterling and Deanna Beylotte and nine great-grandchildren. Two of his special grandchildren as well as two of his special great-grandchildren, called him “Daddy”.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, July 12th, 2013, at 11 o’clock in the chapel of Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service with Pastor Brian Atkinson officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, SC. Pallbearers will be Sampie Noakes, Danny Porter, Jody Clark, Sandy Sales, James Milledge and Denny Mullis. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Sampie Noakes, Jr., John Wood, Alan Mayberry and employees of the Aiken County School District Maintenance Division, who are asked to dress in work uniforms.
The family has asked that memorials be made to the Carolina Cancer Center, 111 Miracle Lane Aiken, SC 29801, due to the excellent care that Dr. Ahmad Gill and his staff provided to Larry.
Friends are welcome to call at the family residence and will be greeted by the family (tonight) on Thursday, July 11th, 2013, from 6 until 8 o’clock at
