Recleim will hold a groundbreaking ceremony in Graniteville on Tuesday at 9 a.m. The company plans to transform the old Hickman Mill plant into a state-of-the-art e-waste recycling center.

The facility will be among the first in North America to use a process known as closed-loop recycling. The center will be able to recycle a variety of appliances, including refrigerators, laptop computers and cell phones.

Renovations are needed at the plant to get it ready to receive equipment that will arrive later in the year, Recleim General Manager Doug Huffer told the Aiken Standard in May. Upgrades will include new loading and receiving docks, new offices and a refurbished parking lot. The work is expected to be completed by the summer of 2014.

Recleim announced in February that it would make a $40.6 million investment in Aiken County that is expected to lead to the creation of 200 new jobs.

Though Recleim is not currently hiring, those interested in applying to Recleim are encouraged to continually check the company’s careers web page at for updates.
