A Georgia woman was killed this morning after her vehicle struck the back of a semi-truck on I-20.

The wreck occurred at Exit 1 around 11:20 a.m., which is the exit to Martintown Road in North Augusta.

The woman killed was from Rockdale County, and she was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton. Her name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The victim, 43, was killed after the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder she was driving struck the rear of a 2010 Mack semi-truck, Carlton said. The semi had come to a complete stop on I-20 due to road construction on the interstate when his tractor trailer was struck from behind, the coroner said. He sustained no life threatening injuries.

The victim was wearing her seatbelt, Carlton said, and she died from multiple body trauma.

There were no passengers in either vehicle, Carlton said.

The crash is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and The Aiken County Coroner's Office.

An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow in Newberry, Carlton said, and excess speed is considered to be a contributing factor in the crash.
