Darley Stable’s Villanesca entered in sprint stakes
Darley Stable homebred Villanesca broke her maiden at Belmont Park during her sophomore campaign.
The chestnut filly returns to the site of her initial victory on Friday in the 6 1/2-furlong Magnolia Jackson Stakes. The daughter of Grade 2 winner Distorted Humor was broken and trained in Aiken by Tim Jones.
The 4-year-old filly is conditioned at the racetrack by Kiaran McLaughlin, and drew the 2-hole for the added money event, and will have jockey Joel Rosario in the irons for the first time. Villanesca is coming off of a 4-month layoff, will carry 119 pounds, and is 3/1 on the morning line. The Magnolia Jackson will be her second start in stakes company.
The filly has a win over the distance, scoring a 2 1/2-length victory at Aqueduct on Dec. 5, 2012. Villanesca won her last start, a 6-furlong contest on March 1, 2013 at Aqueduct.
