Water main rupture puts area under boil water advisory

Several areas near Vaucluse Road are under a “boil water” advisory until 4 p.m. today, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

The advisory stems from a water main rupture on Vaucluse Road earlier on Tuesday.

The affected areas are: Vaucluse Road between Church Street and Richland Avenue; Linden Street between Vaucluse Road and Richland Avenue; Richland Avenue between Lancaster Street and Vaucluse Road; and Church Street between Vaucluse Road and Edgefield Avenue.

Resident were advised Tuesday to boil water prior to consumption for 24 hours. That is expected to end at 4 p.m. today.

Additionally, Variety Restaurant on York Street experienced a break in the waterline, which was identified on Monday and resolved by Aiken City crews on Tuesday afternoon.

Lanes were closed on York Street as they worked to locate the leak and fix the problem.
