Dr. Gail Wood Robertson
YORKTOWN, VA – Dr. Gail Wood Robertson, 74, died peacefully on June 17, 2013 at her home in Yorktown, VA. She was born in Union, SC to Martha and Murray Wood. She was a graduate of the College of William and Mary holding a Doctorate Degree in Counseling. Gail was the Director of CONTACT Peninsula, the crisis hotline for the peninsula, for 18 years. Following her tenure at CONTACT, Gail opened a private counseling practice where she worked until December 2012. Gail touched the lives of hundreds of peninsula residents with her skill, her tender care and her generosity. She was the recipient of The Professional Mental Health Counselor of the Year award and The Humanitarian and Caring Person award both bestowed by the Virginia Counselor’s Association. Gail was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, Arthur Wood. She is survived by her partner of 24 years, Anita Tieman, EdD and her three beloved children: David Robertson and wife Sharron (children Alexandra and Sarah); Dean Robertson and wife Bethany (children Parker, Maecy, and Griffin) and Martha Swirzinski and husband, Michael (children Hannah and Ava). Gail is also survived by her sister-in-law Dianne Wood and many other devoted family members and friends. A celebration of Gail’s life will be held on Saturday, June 22nd, at 2:00pm at Hilton Christian Church, 100 James River Drive, Newport News, VA 23601.
