Letter: Relay’s good overshadowed by violence

It has been almost two weeks since the Aiken Standard article appeared giving coverage to the violence occurring at the Relay For Life event.

Sadly enough, the first impression of that article placed more importance on a few bad behaviors than on all the funds that were raised for cancer research. Many worked tirelessly over the past several months to help raise those funds, but that fact was overshadowed by negative journalism.

The American Cancer Society and the countless volunteers who partner to help raise money to save lives should never be forgotten nor should they be overshadowed by other community occurrences.

Please, let’s remember to focus on the real purpose for why we relay – simply to honor those living with or who have had cancer.
