Support our schools by supporting Project Jackson.
You may ask how is that. This isn’t what the opponents and media have claimed.
Let me set the facts straight strictly from a School Board and our school children’s perspective.
Currently the land that Project Jackson will be built on generates approximately $3,500 per year in revenue for the Aiken County School System. If the School Board approves the current Project Jackson proposal, and once the development is complete in approximately three years, the school system will gain approximately $300,000 per year in revenue.
The land will actually generate more than that, but the City needs the additional money in order to pay for the parking deck (not the stadium).
Additionally, under the current proposal, the School Board is only required to participate for 15 years. Fifteen years from now they would get approximately $1,150,000 per year in revenue for our school system.
Thus to simplify, the options for the school board are:
1) Not approve the TIF and continue to get $3,500 per year in revenue
2) Approve the TIF and immediately gain $300,000 per year in revenue and gain $1,150,000 per year in revenue in 15 years.
People may disagree about some aspects of the project; however, no one can argue that this isn’t in the best interest of our children.
In a time when our school system is struggling for additional revenue to provide a better education for our children, it would be a shame for the School Board to not approve the TIF.
Join me in supporting our schools by supporting Project Jackson, and let’s play ball.
