HERSHEY, Pa. — The nationally fifth-ranked USC Aiken men’s golf team moved up six spots to fourth after the second round of stroke play in the 2013 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championship at the par-71, 6,984-yard East Course at the Hershey Country Club.


USCA enters the final round of stroke play in the with a two-round team tally of 590 (298-292).


The Pacers are in a favorable position since the top eight teams after the 54 holes of stroke play advance to the match play portion of the championship.


The top eight teams after today’s final round will be put into brackets based on the 54-hole scores. This will be the third year that match play will be utilized to determine the national champion.


The pairings for the quarterfinals will be seed No. 1 against seed No. 8, seed No. 2 against seed No. 7, seed No. 3 against seed No. 6 and seed No. 4 against seed No. 5.


Each team match will consist of five points with one point being awarded for each individual match.


The first team to win three points within the team match will advance, or in the case of the final match be declared the national champion.


The match play quarterfinals and semifinals will be contested on Thursday. The national championship match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Friday.


Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year Matt Atkins is in second individually after the first two days at 3-under 139.


Atkins is just one stroke back of Rob Damschen of CSU-Stanislaus, who is the individual leader after two rounds at 4-under 138 (70-68).


Atkins will be vying for his fourth individual title of his career in the final round, as an individual champion will be declared after the 54 holes of stroke play.


USCA currently has three individuals in the top 50 as Hayden Letien is tied for 22nd at 147 (76-71). Taylor Welborn is tied for 47th at 152 (76-76).


USCA’s Mark Dickson is tied for 59th at 153 (77-76), while JP Solis is tied for 75th at 156 (76-80).


National No. 2 Barry is leading after two rounds at 572 (284-288). No. 1 Nova Southeastern is in second at 582 (292-290). No. 8 Florida Southern is just ahead of the Pacers in third at 587 (294-293).


Action in the third and final round of stroke play is scheduled to get underway at 7:30 a.m. The first Pacer will tee off at noon.
