Letter: Lions Club says thanks for successful fundraiser

The Aiken Mid-Day Lions Club held its 18th annual Fashion Show Luncheon and Silent Auction honoring administrative professionals ion April. Despite having several other events in the community, it was very successful and well attended.

Funds raised from this event support the Aiken Mid-Day Lions’ contributions to organizations such as the Leader Dog program, the South Carolina Lions Charitable Services organization and the Storm Eye Institute.

Locally, the club assists needy individuals in obtaining prescriptive glasses, eye exams and hearing aids. Since July 1, 2012, the Aiken Mid-Day Lions have helped 66 residents in Aiken alone. The Club also partners with local organizations like the Salvation Army, Helping Hands and Shepeard Community Blood Center.

The fashion show would not have been possible without the help of our sponsors: Aiken Regional Medical Centers’ WE program, Aiken Ophthalmology, Bridgestone, Atlantic Broadband, ASCO Numatics, URS, Nichols Automotive Service, Bisquecuts & Glazy, Triangle Dodge Chrysler Jeep, PowerCuts Salon & Spa, Aiken Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates, PA/Dr. Oletha R. Minto, Wayne’s Automotive, Hite Floral, Universal Protection Services, State Farm/Denny Michaelis, Inner Beauty MD and MAU Workforce Solutions.

The support from the staff of Houndslake Country Club helped make our event the success we were able to enjoy. Fashionable looks, presented by Belk of Aiken, brought color and excitement to the room, as well as the makeup provided to the models by Estee Lauder. Belk and Estee Lauder also partnered in providing each attendee with a fabulous gift.

In addition, Aiken Regional Medical Centers’ WE program, as our King Lion sponsor, recognized and honored the administrative professionals with a gift as well.

In a time when every charitable organization struggles to meet the increasing demand for services in their community, the Aiken Mid-Day Lions Club members can look back with pride on their efforts that day. The money raised will help those in need with vision and hearing loss right here in Aiken County for many months to come.
