SCOTT TERWILLIGER’S BEAUTY CORNER: Reese Witherspoon and Anne Hathaway switch color
Dear Scott: How in the world can the celebrities go from blonde hair to dark and back again without their hair falling out? I see them doing this all the time. Anne Hathaway just went blonde, and she really looks different. Reese Witherspoon changed her hair from blonde to dark brown, and she look really different, too. I wish I could do the same thing with mine because I get bored, but I am afraid it will all fall out. I go into the salon for a change with my haircut but it is already short, so there isn’t much they can do with it. Have products changed so much as to make it where my hair won’t get damaged?
Answer: The first thing that anyone thinks about when they want a change with their hair is to go and get a new haircut. Unless you are going from long to short, the results are usually disappointing.
Most clients come in with short hair. The boring process of growing it out into another style can sometimes make the process of getting something new seem to take forever.
Many people don’t realize that the haircut they are wearing right now can be styled in various ways to help with the everyday boredom of looking the same all the time. Ask your hairdresser for help.
They can give you some helpful styling pointers. Sometimes a quick flip instead of turning the hair under can break the routine.
You have hit on a perfect quick solution to the problem of hair rut. Color can now be changed back and forth without damage.
Hair coloring products have improved over the years making it possible to be blonde, brunette, redhead and back again at the whim of the client.
Budget can be a factor that comes up when making the switch. Not every major color change is expensive. But depending on the situation, sometimes multiple processes are needed. It can get a little pricey.
You may also need to have the hair restructured to improve the quality and keep it strong. Ask your colorist how much it’ll cost, if money matters.
Witherspoon’s new color is the biggest change. She played a role in the movie “Walk the Line” in 2005 where she was a brunette, but, other than that, it is hard to find her as anything but blonde.
It’s a great new look on her. She does look totally different and beautiful too, as a brunette. Let’s see how long it takes her to go back to blonde.
Hathaway is a different story with hair color change. Her hair is different all the time. Keep in mind that in many cases the magic of cinema can make a wig look like the real thing, but it’s real this time.
Her new blonde color brings even more attention to her pixie cut with the recent color change.
Healthy hair and good coloring products both play a role in successful results. Most important is the knowledge of the colorist. This is the real key for successful results.
