A North Augusta man was killed in an armed robbery at a Beech island business Saturday.
Zann Worrell Jr., 32, a barber at the Island Cuts Barber Shop in Beech Island, was approached by two gunmen at the business demanding money, according to Sgt. Jason Feemster with the Aiken County Sheriff's Department.
The suspects, identified as Demarcus LiQuan Booker and Raphael A. Wooden, both of Augusta, fought with Worrel during the alleged robbery and Worrel was shot multiple times, Feemster said.
Worrel was pronounced dead at Georgia Regents University Saturday afternoon from multiple gunshot wounds, said Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.
Booker and Wooden fled the scene in a white Honda, Feemster said, and the Honda was followed by a witness into Richmond County, where the witness was able to relay the vehicle location and license plate number to the Sheriff's Office via cell phone.
The Richmond County Sheriff's Department located the Honda and took the two suspects into custody, Feemster said.
Aiken County Sheriff's Office investigators have obtained warrants for Booker and Wooden in reference to murder and armed robbery. Both suspects are being held at the Richmond County Sheriff's Jail pending extradition to Aiken County.
