SRNS Heart Walk raises more than $80K
More than $80,000 was recently received from thousands of Savannah River Nuclear Solutions LLC employees through this year’s SRNS Heart Walk.
In addition to the actual walk, this achievement was accomplished using a variety of creative and noteworthy fundraising methods that supplemented the campaign over a period of several months.
According to SRNS Heart Walk campaign chair Joe Legge, an ambitious goal of $50,000 was originally set for the company.
“It truly touched my heart to see such incredible dedication to fight this disease that devastates so many families every year throughout the U.S.,” said Legge. “When the realization hit that we’d gone over goal by more than $30,000, I was amazed and extremely grateful.”
Awards were presented and a special celebration was held on April 29 in honor of the SRNS Heart Walk Team and every participating employee.
“Now, I truly know why this annual event is called the SRNS Heart Walk,” said Dwayne Wilson, SRNS president and CEO. “Because so many of our participants give so much of themselves to this exceptionally important cause ... it is their serving and generous hearts that we greatly admire and recognize today.”
SRNS sponsors a number of charitable programs each year in order help those in need. These programs include Toys for Tots, Golden Harvest Food Bank food drives and the United Way.
“We work with an impressive number of companies each year throughout the Central Savannah River Area to raise funding to fight cardiovascular disease and strokes,” said Valerie Bridges, senior development director of the American Heart Association of Aiken. “But rarely do we work with a company that exhibits the year-round enthusiasm to monetarily support this vital cause as the employees working for SRNS.”
Approximately 300 SRNS employees and their family members participated in the 2013 SRNS Heart Walk.
