North Augusta Public Safety is hosting an “active shooter” training exercise today and Thursday starting at their substation on West Five Notch Road.

Today's training will run from noon to 9 p.m. and Thursday's will be from 3 p.m. to midnight. The training opportunity is hosted by North Augusta Public Safety and instructed by agents from the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division based in Columbia.

The majority of officers in attendance will be from NADPS. However, officers from Edgefield County and Aiken Public Safety will take part in the training, as well.

The training class will move to Mossy Creek Elementary School from 3-9 p.m. today and 3 p.m.-midnight Thursday. There will be several law enforcement vehicles parked around the school.

North Augusta Public Safety advises the public to not be alarmed. Training at the school was scheduled after all students have left the building on both days.

Public Safety is using this opportunity to better prepare officers responding to emergency situations.
