No arrests have been made in a mugging on the Riverwalk in Augusta on Friday night that left two South Carolina people hospitalized, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

The victims were 27-year-old Wesley Spires, of Edgefield, and his girlfriend, 25-year-old Ashley Solsbee, of North Augusta. The incident happened about 11 p.m. on the 700 block of Reynolds Street on the Riverwalk, according to a statement from the Sheriff's Office. The victims were approached by two men armed with an aluminum baseball bat or pipe. The suspects demanded money from the two victims and then began hitting them with the metal object, striking them in the face and head, police said. The suspects have been described as two tall, slim black men who were wearing all black clothing.

Spires reportedly drove himself and Solsbee in his truck to University Hospital. The two remain hospitalized.
