Two people were killed and a third person was injured in a single-vehicle crash in rural Aiken County on Friday night, according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.

The accident happened on Storm Branch Road Friday evening.

Wanda G. Rhoad, 56, of Beech Island, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton. Kenneth Dixon, 49, was transported to Georgia Regents Medical Center, where he died shortly after arriving.

Both died from multiple body trauma, Carlton said.

A third passenger, a man who has not been identified, was transported to Georgia Regents Medical Center; however, his status was not available at press time on Friday.

According to Carlton, Rhoad was driving the late model Chevrolet truck, Dixon was the front seat passenger and the third person was riding in the rear seat.

“The trio were traveling northbound on Storm Branch Road in Aiken County when Ms. Rhoad lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and struck a tree,” Carlton said. “A witness said the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed.”

Carlton said alcohol containers were discovered inside the vehicle. Toxicology is pending on Rhoad.

Dixon was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, Carlton said.

The crash is still under investigation by the Coroner’s Office and the S.C. Highway Patrol.
