A single-vehicle crash in Aiken County late Friday has resulted in the deaths of two Beech Island residents.
Wanda G. Rhoad was the driver of a late-model Chevrolet truck traveling northbound on Storm Branch Road when the vehicle went out of control, left the roadway and struck a tree, according to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.
Rhoad, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her front-seat passenger, Kenneth Dixon, 49, was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Georgia Regents Medical Center.
The two died from multiple body trauma. Dixon was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, Carlton said.
A rear passenger was admitted to Georgia Regents. His status is unknown at this time.
A witness said the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, the coroner said.
Carlton reported alcohol containers were discovered in the vehicle. Toxicology is pending on Rhoad. S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the crash along with the Coroner's Office.
