It was a Frommer graduate exacta in the 1 1/8-mile Grade 1 Santa Margarita Stakes at Santa Anita Park on March 16. However, Michael Talla’s More Chocolate found herself finishing second as she was beaten four lengths by Fox Hill Farm’s Joyful Victory. The Grade 2 winning daughter of Malibu Moon returns to the races Friday, in the 1 1/16-mile, $300,000 Grade 2 La Troienne at Churchill Downs, as part of the Kentucky Oaks undercard.
The bay filly, conditioned by John Sadler, was brilliant in the first start of her 4-year-old campaign, winning the 1 1/16-mile Grade 2 La Canada Stakes, her debut on the dirt by 1 3/4-lengths at Santa Anita Park on Jan. 20.
More Chocolate drew post position no. 3 in the seven horse field for Friday’s La Troienne, is 5/1 on the morning line, will carry 120 pounds, and jockey Joel Rosario gets the ride back on the stakes winning filly.
Cary Frommer consigned More Chocolate to the 2011 Fasig-Tipton Two-Year-Olds in Training Florida Sale, and she was purchased for $310,000 by Martin Anthony. More Chocolate’s dam is the multiple graded stakes winner Little Treasure (FR).
A two-time winner during her sophomore campaign, More Chocolate has three wins, two seconds and one third, from nine starts, and has lifetime earnings of $242,790.
