A police chase prompted by shots fired in an Aiken neighborhood led to three arrests on Monday afternoon.
Rashawan Vertez Carter, 23, of Augusta, Rodrequiz Kintrell Jackson, 21, of Aiken, and Kentrell Antonio Brown, 22, of Augusta were arrested after shots were fired from the Pinecrest neighborhood north of Hampton Avenue, according to a press release from the Aiken Department of Public Safety. Possible weapon and drug charges are pending.
At approximately 5:11 p.m., an Aiken Public Safety officer heard gunfire from Pinecrest Avenue and observed a white four-door Chevrolet Malibu fleeing from the area in a “reckless manner,” the release read.
The responding officers hit the emergency lights and sirens in effort to stop the car but the suspect vehicle continued down the road, so a pursuit began. The chase went through the Central Business District, the release read, and ended at the intersection of Plunkett Avenue and Laurens Street.
The suspects were apprehended and officers found firearms and drugs in the vehicle.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and Aiken County Sheriff’s Office assisted in arresting the three men.
No injuries were reported.
The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting, which is believed to be connected to the car and the suspects who were arrested for fleeing the police.
