A Beech Island man who allegedly shot his ex-wife earlier this month remained in custody at the Richmond County Detention Center in Georgia on Sunday following his arrest the previous evening. He was being held there pending an extradition hearing.
Frank Muns, 48, was wanted for attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He was apprehended “without incident,” around 6:40 p.m. on Saturday at the America’s Best Inn & Suites on Gordon Highway in Augusta, said Capt. Eric Abdullah of the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office. An anonymous phone call early Saturday morning led law enforcement officials to Muns.
According to a Sheriff’s Office report, Muns fired a pistol, hitting the victim twice, on April 6 just before noon during a confrontation on Beard Road in Beech Island. The woman, who was sitting in her car at the time, told officers she was returning home when Muns approached her.
The victim, who was struck at least once in the abdomen, was transported to Georgia Regents Medical Center.
Muns’ arrest was a joint effort involving Aiken County Sheriff’s Office deputies, the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
