An Aiken man was detained on drug charges after he was found passed out in his vehicle parked in the middle of Richland Avenue with a bag of a white powdery substance in his lap, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.


Christopher Lamont Thomas, 30, of Bose Drive, was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, trafficking crack cocaine, driving under suspension and disorderly conduct.


Officers found Thomas' vehicle in the median of Richland Avenue about 5 a.m. on Saturday, according to the report.


Thomas was reportedly sleeping in the vehicle with a bag of a white powdery substance “in his lap in plain view.”


Officers woke Thomas and asked him to exit the vehicle, according to the report.


While Thomas was exiting, an officer could smell an odor of alcoholic beverage “and possible marijuana” on Thomas, who appeared unsteady on his feet.


After Thomas was detained, officers searched the vehicle and found three bags of a white rock substance and a bag of powder substance, according to the report.


The report indicated that the amount of crack cocaine was more than 28 grams but less than 100. grams.
