Aiken Technical College announced Tuesday that it will end its intercollegiate athletic programs after this Spring 2013 semester.

According to a release, the school had experienced a decline in resources that had previously been available for athletics.

ATC currently fields two intercollegiate athletic teams: men's basketball and women's softball. The men's basketball team began play in 1991 and went to the NJCAA national championship tournament in 2007.

The softball team got its start in 2004 and made a run to the national tournament in 2012.

For more information on the end of Knights athletics, see Wednesday's edition of the Aiken Standard.
