The Masters golf tournament brings a lot of well-known, big names of the sport close to home.
The tournament is an exciting time for golf fans around the world, but especially in the CSRA. The Aiken Standard wants to know who residents are looking forward to seeing at the tournament this year and asked some of local golf enthusiasts about their favorite player.
Whether it's on the green in Augusta or here in Aiken County at their favorite sports bar with friends, these residents will surely be cheering on their favorite golfers.
Jan Snipes Favorite golfer: Rory Mcllroy Snipes met Mcllroy in Hilton Head and told him that he was her son’s favorite. He gave Snipes a hug and asked if he was her favorite, too. “He has a wonderful smile. He has a good attitude. He cares for people.”×
Lou Kleynen Favorite golfer: Bubba Watson “He’s a long hitter. He’s a little bit crazy, but he has a good touch around the greens, as well.”×
Bill Hardy Favorite golfer: Matt Kuchar "I expect him to win everything. I think he's got the distance. He also has a good attitude whenever he steps onto the golf course."×
Winnie Brown Favorite golfer: Phil Mickelson “He has a good testimony on and off the course.”×
Rob Lee Favorite golfer: Tiger Woods "I feel he is an ambassador for golf. I like his swing. He makes the game more fun to watch. He brings excitement to the game."×
Tony Venetz Favorite golfer: Tiger Woods Venetz said he appreciates how Woods was able to get back into the game despite his past troubles in his personal life. “He’s not a quitter. He’s good for golf – he’s still good for golf.”×
Brooks Blackburn Favorite golfer: It’s a tie between Fred Couples, USC Aiken alum Scott Brown or his dad, Jack Blackburn. Regarding Fred Couples – “The guy is just phenomenal. He’ll probably make the cut.”×
Logan Scott Favorite golfer: Phil Mickelson "I'm left-handed. He's left-handed and he's really good."×
