It was an unlucky day for an Augusta man who was shot while walking to the Lucky Seven gas station on Hampton Avenue to get a drink on Tuesday, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
Kentrell Antonio Brown, 21, was walking on Hampton Avenue near Dunbar’s Service Station when he was shot twice, according to a police report. Brown told officers he didn’t hear or see the vehicle.
Brown reportedly heard five shots and ran toward some houses, according to the report. He was struck in the left hand and left ankle.
Brown was visiting a girl who lives in Hahn Village “when he got thirsty,” according to the report. He asked where the nearest store was and was pointed to the Lucky Seven.
After he was shot, an unknown person let Brown use their phone, according to the report.
“The witness, his girlfriend, got a ride to Aiken to pick him up,” the report stated. “This unknown person dropped them off at the Aiken ER and left.”
Brown was not cooperative with officers afterward, according to the report. He was then arrested on two bench warrants for Aiken Public Safety for no S.C. driver’s license and no S.C. vehicle license. He was served additional warrants from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office for driving without a license and disregarding a traffic control device.
Brown was taken to the Aiken County detention center after he was released from the hospital.
