Newly-elected Aiken County Councilman Phil Napier received his oath of office before Tuesday’s meeting, officially returning to Council after previously serving from 1999 to 2002.

“It’s good to be back,” Napier said. “I want to work with everyone and work for the good of the taxpayers of Aiken County.”

The Graniteville native was elected to Council’s District 6 seat on March 26 after receiving 477 votes compared to only 70 write-in votes for other candidates. No Democrat filed for the seat.

He said he hopes to promote the development of rural areas in Aiken County, adding he particularly wants to focus on adding infrastructure like water and sewer services and additional industry.
