After years of big, local events and making this community his second home, the general manager of the USC Aiken Convocation Center is moving on.
Matt Herpich, who has held the position since 2010, will be moving to Ohio to take a job as the general manager of a 13,000-seat arena and joining convocation center at Cleveland State University.
Originally from Rochester, N.Y., Herpich came to South Carolina to attend the University of South Carolina to pursue a degree in sports and entertainment management. During his senior year in 2007, Herpich started working at USC Aiken part time as the box office manager. In 2008, he became the full-time event manager and took his current position in 2010 over the Convocation Center, which is a Global Spectrum-managed facility.
Herpich said one aspect of his job that he will miss is the staff he has worked with over the years.
“It’s really the relationships with everyone that I will miss,” Herpich said. “My colleagues have been very supportive.”
When Herpich wasn’t on the job, he helped coach little league baseball and developmental football. He also participated in Rotary Club luncheons and was a Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce ambassador.
Herpich said he plans to come back to visit the area when he can.
“I’m really going to miss the Aiken community – Aiken is a second home,” Herpich said.
Herpich said his last day on the job will be sometime in April, and he is working with the USC Aiken Convocation Center for a smooth transition.
