For the past decade, the Game of Kings has been the third jewel of the Aiken Triple Crown. And the 10th edition of Pacers and Polo is sure to bring the same type of intense endline-to-endline action on Saturday at the Aiken Polo Club’s Powderhouse Polo Field.
This year’s contest will feature a number of outstanding players, who also happen to be Aiken residents, and provide spectators with an up-close look at the sport.
One can expect the excitement to abound from the game’s opening bowl-in to the final horn at the end of the sixth chukker. This year Designer Builders’ roster is composed of Barb Uskup (A), Adam Snow (6), Antonio Galvan (4) and Alan Meeker (A) versus Burger King, a team whose members include Hugh Worsham (1), Horacio Onetto (4), Justin Pimsner (2) and Kegan Walsh (2). The game’s sponsors include Parsons, Outback Steakhouse, Travinia, University Housing, Designer Builders, Burger King, the USC Aiken Pacers, the Aiken Standard and the Augusta Chronicle.
“It gives us an opportunity to support the community and expose people to the sport,” said Uskup. “It’s an exhibition game, so it’s always a lot of fun, but I do play to win and I’m very competitive. It’s great to be able to play with friends, and I’ve played with all the players in the game at different times.”
The proceeds for the game and event support the USC Aiken Pacer Club, which is the booster organization of the athletic department.
The gates open at 10:30 a.m., the VIP lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. The game starts at 1 p.m.
