He was placed in the Aiken County detention center, where he remained on Friday afternoon.

Officers saw a vehicle traveling south on Newberry Street about 1:30 a.m. on Friday without its headlights on, according to a report. They followed the vehicle as it turned left onto Park Avenue and weaved in its lane of travel before the driver turned the headlights on while crossing York Street.

Officers initiated a traffic stop at Marion Street but the vehicle continued to Williamsburg Street, turned right and continued at a slow pace on Williamsburg until coming to a stop at Colleton Avenue, according to the report.

An officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle as he approached it, according to the report. The officer could also see a black semi-automatic pistol beside the driver’s seat.

Mitchell was reportedly uncooperative with officers and was held at gunpoint until backup arrived.

During a search of Mitchell, officers found five bags containing a white, powdery substance in his right front pocket that later field tested positive for cocaine, according to the report. Inside the vehicle, officers found a duffel bag containing a large quantity of marijuana residue along with scales, a marijuana crusher, torn bags and a cigarette pack.
