The Aiken County Coroner's Office has identified a man who was killed in an overnight car crash on Outing Road as an Aiken resident.

The victim was identified as Ivory A. Kirkland Jr., 37, said Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.

No one witnessed the accident, Carlton said, which appears to have occurred about 12:30 a.m. At about 1:45 a.m., a motorist reported the overturned vehicle near 200 Outing Club Road, which is located off Vaucluse Road.

Kirkland lived on Outing Club Road, Carlton said.

The coroner said Kirkland was driving a Saturn four-door sedan, bearing a Georgia license plate. The Saturn appeared to have been traveling north when it left the highway and struck a drainage culvert on the right side of the road, Carlton said. The vehicle overturned, partially ejecting the driver — the only known occupant, Carlton said.

The Coroner's Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol still are investigating the circumstances of the crash, Carlton said, and toxicology results are pending.

This is the seventh fatal crash in Aiken County in 2013.
