A freeze warning is in effect for Aiken County from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures will drop into the upper 20s to low 30s Friday morning. Sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely, according to the Weather Service.

These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.

Peach farmers in Edgefield County - widely known as "The Ridge" - are keeping an eye on the weather for how their crop will fare the cold temperatures.

Sonny Yonce with J.W. Yonce & Sons, Inc. said he hesitates to speculate what the extent of the damage could be, if any, to his crop. It all depends on how cold it gets Friday morning and for how long it stays cold.

"I am sure there will be minimal damage in the low spots. But, if there is a time for freezing, it is now," he said.
