South Aiken 5, Aiken 1
South Aiken (8-2, 3-1 Region 5-AAAA) collected a road rivalry win over Aiken Tuesday with South Carolina signee Taylor Widener doing a little bit of everything.
Widener (2-0) struck out 10 batters in a complete game while giving up four hits. He also took a shutout into the sixth inning, when he walked Liberty signee Tray Roberts, which was followed by a bloop double by Francis Marion signee Bryce Saunders. Alex Conoway brought Roberts home with a sacrifice fly for the Hornets’ only run.
Widener was also the T-Breds’ leader at the plate. He went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a second-inning grand slam to account for all five South Aiken RBIs on the night.
Aiken’s Blake Cantrell took the loss.
South Aiken will next host Dutch Fork on Friday at 7 p.m.
Fox Creek 22, Hunter-Kinard-Tyler 0 (5 innings)
Fox Creek (12-0, 6-0 Region 4-A) stayed unbeaten, with Michael Hill (1-0) collecting the win on the mound while going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, a home run and six RBIs.
Terrance Hillary went 3-for-5 for the Predators and added a home run, a double and four RBIs.
Darshon Broadwater went 4-for-5 for Fox Creek, which will travel to play North on Tuesday.
Ridge Spring-Monetta 16, North 5 (5 innings)
Ridge Spring-Monetta (7-2, 5-1 Region 4-A) got the win with Jonathan Gibson (1-0) striking out seven batters.
Sam Bedenbaugh went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and five RBIs for the Trojans, and Andrew Pratt went 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
RS-M will play at King Academy today at 7 p.m.
Schofield MS 175, Kennedy 188, AL Corbett 216
Whit Larlee led Schofield to victory with a 40 at Houndslake, good for medalist honors. Kennedy (7-1) got a 44 from Chad Carter in the second-place team finish.
Kennedy will be in action again on Thursday at Woodside against Aiken Middle and LBC.
North Augusta 3, White Knoll 1
North Augusta (2-4, 1-1 Region 5-AAAA) got goals from Blake Busbee, Alex Florido and Brock Vaught.
Tyler Eggleston gave up the goal but had nine saves, and Tayo Carrizales added five saves during his time in the net.
North Augusta will play at South Aiken on Thursday at 7 p.m.
South Aiken 2, Lexington 1
South Aiken (7-1, 2-0 Region 5-AAAA) got goals from John Granger and Quinn Van Pelt in the win. Michael Ulmer had 11 saves.
The junior varsity T-Breds (5-1-1, 0-1-1) tied the Wildcats 1-1 with a goal from Jason Granger. South Aiken will host North Augusta on Thursday.
Dutch Fork 10, Aiken 0
Aiken (1-6, 0-2 Region 5-AAAA) took the loss despite 12 saves from goalkeeper Kelly Coons.
Aiken will travel to play Lexington on Friday.
Wagener-Salley 10, Williston-Elko 0 (5 innings)
Wagener-Salley (5-1, 5-1 Region 4-A) had Jenna Starnes (4-1) in the circle for all five innings, with Starnes recording 13 strikeouts in the process. Morgan Gunter went 1-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs, and Kaylee Rushton went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
The War Eagles have a doubleheader at Aiken on Thursday at 5 and 7 p.m.
Midland Valley 12, Brookland-Cayce 0 (5 innings)
Midland Valley (8-2, 5-0 Region 5-AAA) got the win with Mackenzie Henderson (1-1) in the circle.
Kayle Riggs went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Mustangs, and Amber Hong went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
In junior varsity action, the Mustangs (8-2, 3-1) won 13-0 with Kelsey Boatwright tossing a four-strikeout no-hitter. Danielle Brooks went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI, and Amber Moyer went 2-for two with a triple, a double and an RBI.
Midland Valley will play at Swansea on Thursday.
South Aiken 19, Aiken 1
South Aiken (4-7, 1-4 Region 5-AAAA) picked up its first region win, and Carly Dempsey (1-0) got the win in the circle.
Caroline Hicks went 3-for-5, and Cassidy Peake went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for the T-Breds, who will host Dutch Fork on Friday.
North Augusta 2, Dutch Fork 1 (8 innings)
Brook Levallee led off the Jackets’ eighth with an infield single, then stole second and got to third on a sacrifice fly by Grace Wallace. Winning pitcher Meghan Whitfield (7-2) then got a base hit to bring Levallee home and get North Augusta (7-2, 3-1 Region 5-AAAA) the win.
Whitfield struck out 11 in the win, and Silver Fox starter Haley Elkins struck out 15 in the loss.
The Jackets will play at Swansea today at 6:30 p.m. before hosting Lexington on Thursday.
