It’s a first for Aiken’s Cary Frommer. Fox Hill Farm’s Joyful Victory won the 1 1/8-mile Grade 1, $300,000 Santa Margarita Stakes at Santa Anita Park. Joyful Victory is Frommer’s first Grade 1 winner. But, that wasn’t the only good news for Tim and Cary Frommer, Michael Talla’s More Chocolate, another horse from their program, placed second in the same race,
Joyful Victory made it two consecutive wins, and in doing so eclipsed the $1 million mark in earnings, increasing her bankroll to $1,090,679. The 5-year-old gray mare by Grade 1 winner Tapit, is conditioned by Larry Jones, and won the Santa Margarita by a 4-length margin. It was the fifth stakes win for Joyful Victory, and the second of her 2013 campaign as she won the inaugural $400,000 1 1/16-mile Houston Ladies Classic Stakes at Sam Houtson Race Park by 4 1/4-lengths on Jan. 26. Jockey Rosie Napravnik was in the irons for both victories.
Frommer was impressed with the horse when she purchased Joyful Victory.
“She had all the right parts,” said Frommer, in a phone interview Saturday evening. “It’s a very satisfying feeling (finishing 1-2).”
Joyful Victory won the Grade 2 Fantasy Stakes and the Grade 3 Honeybee Stakes during her sophomore campaign, and the Tiffany Lass Stakes at age four.
More Chocolate was easily second best, finishing 5 1/4-lengths in front of the third place finisher Brushed by a Star. More Chocolate was a winner her last time out, in the Grade 2 La Canada Stakes on Jan. 20 at Santa Anita Park. More Chocolate has lifetime earnings of $242,790.
