Ten people were arrested after officers from multiple law enforcement agencies executed searches in four homes in Wagener on Thursday night.
The searches were carried out simultaneously at 138 Danley Ave., 98 Triangle St., 241 Holley St. and 157 Cofer St., according to Wagener Police Chief Jeff Key. Officers recovered about 200 grams of marijuana, 8 grams of crack cocaine, a .40-caliber pistol and a 12-gauge sawed off shotgun.
Octavia Bush of Wagener was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana within a half-mile of a school, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine within a half-mile of a school.
Michael Sampson of Perry, and Shamouri Samuels of Wagener, were detained on the same charges.
Kendall Seawright of Salley, Christina Day of Aiken and Walter Garvin of Wagener were each detained on simple possession of marijuana charges.
Yolanda Johnson of Wagener was detained for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Isiah Jerry was detained on a family court bench warrant for Aiken County, and James Jones and Laquanda Patterson were detained on municipal court bench warrants for Pelion and Williston, respectively.
The searches were a joint operation between the Wagener Police Department, the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, Aiken Department of Public Safety, North Augusta Department of Public Safety, the Perry Police Department, the Salley Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
“We’ve been investigating various complaints from the community and had done some surveillance of our own, and that’s how we ended up where we were,” Key said.
There were other people in the homes when the searches happened who were released at the scene, according to Key.
“They weren’t doing anything wrong. They just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time,” he said.
Key said the investigation is ongoing.
