Dogwood Stable purchases two horses at OBS Sale, Palace Malice set to work Sunday
Dogwood Stable’s W. Cothran “Cot” Campbell was active Tuesday at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company March Selected Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training in Ocala, Fla. The Aiken-based operation purchased a dark bay colt by Grade 1 winner Yes It’s True from the consignment of Eisaman Equine for $120,000. A half-brother to stakes winners Electrify, Rothko, Cream Only, and stakes placed Kinsey, the juvenile colt drew comparisons to another multiple graded stakes winning Dogwood runner.
“He’s a big, good looking bay colt, and he reminded me a little bit of Aikenite,” said Campbell. “He worked fast, not the fastest in the sale, but plenty fast enough, and with his pedigree he could be anything, and you have a reason to be very confident that he will be a good horse.”
The second horse purchased by Dogwood was a gray colt by multiple Grade 2 winner Even the Score. A half-brother to stakes winners Britt’s Jules and Probabtion Ready, and stakes placed Social Probation and Dirty Rush, the colt was purchased for $130,000 from the consignment of Wavertree Stables, Inc.
“He’s a big gray horse, did not work that fast, but moved incredibly and was extremely impressive,” said Campbell. “He was just smooth, a big moving gray horse that had a gigantic stride, and he is a half-brother to some good horses.”
Dogwood Stable’s graded stakes placed Palace Malice continues his way along the Kentucky Derby trail, and will work 5/8-mile on Sunday with Hall of Fame jockey Edgar Prado up in preparation for the $1 million, 1 1/8-mile Grade 2 Louisiana Derby at the Fair Grounds on March 30.
