To Lisa Raiford — The Center for Innovative Learning at Pinecrest teacher and Aiken County’s 2012 Teacher of the Year is a finalist for the state honors. She finds out May 1 if she takes home the statewide honors.
To honors for USC Aiken basketball players — Senior point guard Re’mon Nelson was named the Peach Belt conference Player of the Year last week. For the women, Daniela Tarailo was selected to the All-PBC first-team and Brittany Hill to the second-team. For the men, Paul Larsen was a second-team selection, while Ronald Zimmerman was named to the third-team. Men’s coach Vince Alexander was named the league’s co-Coach of the Year.
To furloughs — Sequestration hit home last week when Savannah River Nuclear Solutions announced 2,000 workers could be placed on reduced schedules starting April 1, while others will suffer full furloughs and layoffs.
