The Aiken Department of Public Safety is investigating a shooting on Wednesday afternoon that left at least one person hospitalized.

The shooting happened at a home on the 400 block of Greenville Street at 3:10 p.m., according to Sgt. Jake Mahoney.

Officers arrived on the scene and found a male victim with a gunshot wound, who was treated by Aiken County EMS and transported to Georgia Regents Medical Center, Mahoney said. His condition was unknown.

The shooter reportedly fled on foot.

“A short time later, we were notified by Aiken Regional Medical Centers that an individual had reported to that hospital with a gunshot wound,” Mahoney said. “Investigators are speaking with both individuals and both hospitals to determine their roles, if any, in this shooting incident.”

A weapon was not recovered from the scene, he said.
