North Augusta moved to 3-0 on the season after beating the Predators in four innings Thursday. Meghan Whitfield picked up her third victory in the circle as well. Brooke Lavalle went 2-3 on the day for North Augusta, racking up six RBIs in the game. North Augusta’s next game will be on Saturday.

BaseballSouth Aiken 8, Spring Valley 3

South Aiken’s Taylor Widener was impressive on the mound and in the batter’s box in South Aiken’s victory in the Gilbert High School Preseason tournament. Widener pitched six innings for the Thoroughbreds with three strikouts and only allowed one earned run. Widener also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run and two RBIs. Preston Dawson also had a good day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs. South Aiken will next face Spartenburg today at Gilbert High School.

Midland Valley 14, Ninety-Six 0

Cameron Levi and the Mustangs picked up their second win of the season Thursday night over Ninety-Six high school. The Mustangs’ Wyatt West drove in three of the Mustang runs on a 3-for-4 hitting performance. Midland Valley now awaits it’s opponent for Saturday’s game in the Mustang Invitational.


USC Aiken ranked third in poll

The USC Aiken men’s golf team opened the spring by remaining the third-ranked team in the nation in both the Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Men’s Coaches’ Poll and the Golfstat NCAA Division II Head-to-Head standings.

Barry’s first in poll, followed Nova Southeastern. In the Golfstat Head-to-Head standings, Nova Southeastern’s first, while Barry is second.

USCA opened the spring campaign last week with a ninth place finish at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate. The Pacers were the only NCAA Division II team in the 18-team field. USCA’s next match will be in Catawba’s Richard Rendleman Invitational at the par-71 Country Club of Salisbury, N.C.


USC Aiken men climb in national rankings

The USC Aiken men’s tennis team moved up to 23rd in the first NCAA Division II rankings of the spring. USCA had been 35th in the preseason rankings.

The Pacers (3-1, 0-1 Peach Belt Conference) also moved up to sixth in the latest Southeast Regional rankings.
